ICDL was adopted into national law in Kenya in 2009. The Government of Kenya amended the Information and Communications Act with the following, ‘recognizing the International Computer Driving Licence (ICDL) Certification as the entry level computer certification designed to demonstrate competence in computer use’.

This was the turning point for ICDL in Kenya, with national recognition, ICDL has become the standard offering for many organisations across the public and private sector. Today, there are more than 80 ICDL Accredited Test Centres (ATCs) offering training and testing across the country. Each year, over 10,000 new candidates register for the programme, taking over 50,000 certification tests annually.
