Specto has embarked on a large-scale ICDL accreditation campaign in Somaliland in collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education. The campaign started with two workshops delivered by Specto at Hargeisa University, in IT Security and Project Planning. Thirty four trainees attended both workshops representing 12 universities, the Ministry of Education and Science, the Ministry of Telecommunication and Technology, and a private telecommunication company, in addition to representatives from the Civil Service Institute. Another workshop followed in the ICDL Base modules.
The workshops were arranged by Dr. Yousef Ahmad, Director General of Higher Education, and inaugurated by Dr. Yassin Mahmoud, Minister of Education and Science and Dr. Abdilwali Al Soufi, Minister of Telecommunication and Technology, in the presence of Dr. Mahmoud Yousef, President of Hargeisa University.
University of Hargeisa was the first university in Somaliland interested in endorsing the ICDL program. It is a public coeducational higher education institution founded in 2000 with more than 6000 students. The university offers degree and non-degree courses in different areas of study. Specto assisted the university in meeting all ICDL requirements towards the accreditation. This encouraged other universities to follow the lead and start with the accreditation process.
